GIS Intern
Job Duties

The Town of New Windsor, New York is seeking GIS Intern to provide data development, design, collection, and operation of our geographic information system (GIS) and computer-aided design (CAD) software. This position collects and updates data using our GIS software. The GIS Intern will utilize our GIS software to digitize land use, physical/environmental, park features, facilities/assets, architecture, utilities, easements, and other municipal data. Town vehicle and safety equipment will be provided for this project.

The position will also perform day-to-day activities to assist the Chief Information Technology Officer, Town Engineer, and Water and Sewer Department Head in special project assignments, which could include but are not limited to the development of GIS maps, identification of discrepancies in digitized documents, and data entry of municipal data. 

To qualify, an applicant must be enrolled (or recently graduated ) and in good standing in a institution of higher education and possesses strong communication, problem-solving, and organization skills. The project will run from April 2025 – August 2025 with an hourly wage of $25 per hour.

 

Emergency Planning Technician
Job Duties
Responsible for developing and implementing Federal, State or local planning. The incumbent informs municipality of regulatory changes, conducts workshops and training designed to assist municipality in maintaining compliance with emergency laws and regulations. Review OSHA and NYSPESH health regulations, create policy and guidelines applicable to local government and ensures compliance. Good knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements relating to emergency planning in the municipality, good knowledge of multi-hazard approach to emergencies and Homeland Security issues, ability to read and interpret Federal, State and local laws, rules and regulations, ability to make inspections, analyze findings and determine corrective action, ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, ability to maintain effective working relationships, ability to work independently, computer literacy, initiative, physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Minimum Qualifications
•Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher, and one (1) year experience in emergency management or law enforcement; OR
•Completion of sixty (60) credits and three (3) years’ experience as outlined in (A); OR
•Possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years’ experience as outlined in (A) and (B) AND
•Successfully pass a Civil Service Examination for Emergency Planning Technician and be reachable on the list of eligibles.
