Dispatcher Stephen A Bedetti was recently presented with the New Windsor Police Department ‘Service Achievement Award’ for recently achieving 30 years of service with the town. Dispatcher Bedetti is currently the town's dispatcher supervisor who works closely with all the emergency service agencies in the town. This includes all police, fire and ambulance services. Police Chief Robert Doss stated, “It’s quite the achievement to work at any job for thirty years. The fact that Stephen worked all of those years dispatching and coordinating emergency service personnel throughout the town under stressful circumstances is commendable and I offer my congratulations to him.”
On Thursday, May 5, 2022 Dispatcher Christine Csorba was presented with a ‘Service Achievement Award’ in recognition of her 25-years of service with the Town of New Windsor Police Department. Dispatcher Csorba is a very experienced dispatcher who works closely with all of the emergency service agencies that operate in the Town. This includes all police, fire and ambulance services.
Supervisor Meyers stated, “We are very fortunate to have people like Christine working for the Town. It’s the dedicated and professional employees like her that make this Town as great as it is. Congratulations to her on this achievement.”
Police Chief Robert Doss stated, “This is quite an achievement. It’s important that we recognize our employees for all that they do for the community. Dispatcher Csorba told me that she loves her job just as much today as she did when she first started back in 1997. Her passion for helping people has never gone away over the years. I think that’s a testament to the kind of person that she is. Dispatcher Csorba excels at her job when things are at their worst. She always remains calm under the most stressful of circumstances in both dispatching and when speaking to callers on the phone. I congratulate her on this accomplishment and I personally thank her for her service to the Town.”

Today Dispatcher Kristi Fitzpatrick was presented with the New Windsor Police Department Service Achievement Award in recognition of her 30 years of service with the town. Town Supervisor George Meyers also presented a certificate recognizing her continuing services and contributions to public safety.
Dispatcher Fitzpatrick is currently the department’s Dispatch Supervisor and works closely with all of our emergency services, which includes all police, fire, and ambulance services.
We congratulate and thank her for her continued service and dedication to the department and to the town and its residents.

NWPD Holds Awards Ceremony and Monument Dedication
New Windsor, NY – On Monday, May 12th, the Town of New Windsor Police Department held its 40th Annual Awards Ceremony. The ceremony is held each year during National Police Week to celebrate the contributions of department members and partners, recognizing their hard work, dedication, loyalty and commitment to keeping our community safe.
In addition to recognizing several department members for their years of service to the department and/or the military, 39 awards were presented to 47 individuals or units. Police Chief Dan Valeri praised the award recipients, stating, “You inspire your fellow colleagues and set an example that we all strive to follow.” He went on to thank those in attendance for their support. He added, “remember that it’s the collective efforts of this entire department — from the officers on the street to the dispatchers behind the scenes to our civilian partners — that makes New Windsor a safer and stronger community. We all play an essential role in this work, and each of you contributes to our shared mission of serving with integrity, respect, and excellence.
Town Supervisor Stephen Bedetti agreed stating, “Our community is stronger, safer, and more connected because of the unwavering commitment and professionalism shown by every member of our police department — both officers and civilian staff. We are deeply grateful for your service, and it is an honor to recognize your outstanding contributions at this year’s awards ceremony.”
As the ceremony continued, awards were presented to members of the New Windsor Police Department, Town of Newburgh Police Department, City of Newburgh Police Department, New York State Police, FBI Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force, and New Windsor Emergency Medical Services as well as civilians who assisted the department. Earlier in the day a ceremony was held to dedicate a monument outside police headquarters honoring the department’s K-9 Unit. The unit, which was officially formed in 1985, has been served by 14 past and 3 current teams. Many of the former handlers attended the ceremony along with the current members. Also in attendance were town officials and employees, police department staff and the current K-9 class and their trainers from the Orange County Sheriff’s K-9 School. Chief Valeri thanked Town Supervisor Bedetti and the Town Board for their support and commitment to the unit. He went on the thank, former chief, Michael Biasotti for his vision and leadership that laid the foundation for the department’s K-9 program, as well as the past and current handlers for their service and commitment. The chief said, “This monument stands as a tribute to every K-9 who wore the badge and served with honor. May it remind us all of their loyalty, bravery, and the unbreakable bond they shared with those who walked beside them.”
New Windsor Police Department recognized Dispatcher Jill Nye today for completing 20-years of dedicated service to the town. Police Chief Robert L. Doss stated, “Congratulations to Dispatcher Nye for this career achievement. Our dispatchers are often the unsung heroes of the Police Department. They are the ones who answer the phone in a calm voice and get the necessary information to be able to send the proper emergency responders quickly to where they need to be. Here in New Windsor, our dispatchers not only dispatch the police but they also dispatch the ambulance corps and the fire departments if needed. Dispatcher Nye has helped countless people over the course of her career and I commend her for always doing such a great job.”
New Windsor Police Sergeant William Ruger was awarded the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee Chair Award for 2019 for his leadership as our grant project director of the Police Traffic Services (“PTS”) grant.
New Windsor Police Sergeant William Ruger was awarded the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee Chair Award for 2019 for his leadership as our grant project director of the Police Traffic Services (“PTS”) grant. Sgt. Ruger was recognized for his effective use of NYS grant funds in increasing motorist awareness of vehicle & traffic laws and for reducing personal injury motor vehicle crashes in New Windsor by 21% over the past year. He was also recognized for his innovative and productive use of grant funding to conduct nighttime traffic checkpoints to enforce & educate motorists in the area of child passenger safety. During just two of these nighttime traffic checkpoints conducted in 2019, an astonishing 45 child restraint violations were observed by Officers and enforcement action was taken. The GTSC Chair Award is presented annually to an individual and their organization for having made efficient use of public resources and for producing programs that are innovative, superior and highly successful in promoting traffic safety. This year’s award was presented on October 24, 2019 at the NYS Highway Safety Symposium in Albany, New York. Pictured in the photo is Sgt. New Windsor’s Deputy Police Chief Michael Farbent retired Friday after 37-years of service to the town. Deputy Chief Farbent, an FBI National Academy graduate, held many ranks within the police department over his career including: Sergeant, Lieutenant and Deputy Chief. In August of 2018, he became just the second Deputy Police Chief in the long history of the Police Department. He was also a K-9 handler for 7 years and the Police Academy Director of the Orange County Police Chiefs Association’s Police Academy for 1 year. In 1999, Deputy Chief Farbent was awarded as ‘Officer of the Year’ after locating and pursuing a vehicle and its two occupants who had just fled the scene of an armed robbery at Cowan’s Jewelers. His actions resulted in the arrest of the occupants, who were armed with two loaded handguns.
Town Supervisor George Meyers stated, “That during Deputy Chief Farbent’s 37-year career he has made major contributions to the current professionalism of the Town of New Windsor Police Department.”
Chief Doss added, “Deputy Chief Farbent will be greatly missed by everyone at the Police Department. Throughout his entire career, he was always a well-respected Officer that was known for his intelligence and his knowledge of police practices. His presence and leadership as a long-standing member of the police department’s administration has been invaluable, not only to me but to the entire community. I know I will personally miss his input in the day to day operations of the department. I wish him the very best in retirement, he certainly earned it.”
